The CampsiteGreat Tower is located on the eastern shore of Windermere, midway between Bowness and Newby Bridge. The 250 acres of heavily wooded and rocky terrain offer a wide variety of camping sites. Good on-site facilities are provided in the shape of 3 toilet blocks (with hot water & showers in the camp centre block). a well-stocked providore, drying machines, and full-time camp staff. ActivitiesOpportunities abound on-site for various recreational activities. These include orienteering, pioneering, abseiling, rock climbing, and fellcraft. Off-site the Lake District lends itself exceptionally well to walking, rock-climbing, with sailing and canoeing available at the Moor Crag, the site’s nearby water activity centre. The range available widens to include boat trips, the Brockhole Visitor Centre, a classic boat museum, etc. InsuranceAll Scouts are fully covered by insurance when taking part in any Scout activity. SafetyWhilst we always try to make Scouting FUN, everything adventurous has a certain element of danger in it. Accidents do, and always will, happen. So with hiking, sailing, canoeing, and climbing we like to think that we take every precaution necessary to ensure that the same number of Scouts return to the campsite (and in the same condition) as set out earlier. HikingI have been hiking for many years, am trained in First Aid, and am permitted to take Scouts walking in the Lake District all year round. There is always one other adult in the party - usually 2 or 3. Scouts are not allowed out on the mountains unless they have the correct gear. Sailing, Canoeing, Climbing, AbseilingAll these activities will be supervised by suitably qualified adults whose qualifications have been approved by the Scout Association. PLEASE... ...will you attend a short get-together to discuss the camp? VisitsPlease feel free to call in on us at any time. There should be someone around all the time — apart from the full day's hike. However, it might best to ring my mobile as you approach so we can give you instructions to our site. HelpWe shall have one or two spare places. If you would like to come along to lend a hand and try some of the activities please let me know - we'll fit you in. You can bring your own tent, borrow one of ours, or even bring your caravan (no hook-up points, sorry). Sample Menu
